The folksy jazz of the late Ron Miles | Will's Mood

The folksy jazz of the late Ron Miles | Will's Mood

The trumpeter Ron Miles (1963-2022), based in Denver for most of his life, explored "the blending of American folk, blues and country with cool jazz and spiritual influences" and added "equal doses of rock and free jazz" (Giovanni Russonello, The New York Times). In this episode, you and I will explore a bunch of the former: the folksy stuff, including Bill Frisell, Ginger Baker, and more in that vein. I also tell a story of when I met and played one of these compositions for Frisell in 2014.

On Monday, March 3, 2025, I will play the music of the late trumpeter Ron Miles in Vancouver.
